Marines Welcome Their Newest Bulldog, Chesty

“He’s only 9 weeks old but has already entered recruit training. That would be “Chesty,” the pedigreed English bulldog and future Marine Corps mascot, who arrived at Marine Barracks in the nation’s capital on Valentine’s Day.

The handsome and distinguished young Chesty will enter obedience school and canine “recruit training,” earn the title of Marine and be named the next Marine Corps mascot on March 29. His official duties include marching in myriad events, including the Friday twilight parades at the facility, looking tough but buff in his own custom dress blues…”

Do Navy SEALs Deserve To Retire Early?

Somehow SEAL years are not the same as human years. When it comes to the physical toll, Navy SEAL years damage the body, age the body, risk the body far more than other kinds of military service.  So maybe SEALs (and other Special Operations forces) should be eligible for an earlier retirement?

That might prevent the situation that is causing so much speculation in Esquire magazine about the Navy SEAL who killed Osama Bin Laden.  “The Shooter” is leaving the military with 16 years of service and hardly any benefits.  Author Phil Bronstein noted,

“What is much harder to understand is that a man with hundreds of successful war missions, one of the most decorated combat veterans of our age, who capped his career by terminating bin Laden, has no landing pad in civilian life.”

F-35Bs Resume Flights After Suspension

“EGLIN AFB — The Marine variant of the F-35 fighter jet resumed flying Thursday after an almost 30-day suspension.

The planes were grounded nationwide last month after an engine malfunction occurred during a takeoff at Eglin.

The suspension, the longest in the history of the F-35, was caused by an improperly crimped hose, or fueldraulic line.

“We’re very excited to get back to the flying business,” Marine Col. Arthur Tomassetti, vice commander of the 33rd Fighter Wing, said Thursday….”

New Marine Corps Female Dress Cover on Horizon

“MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. — The female dress cover may change soon, more than 11 years after Gen. James T. Conway, the 34th Commandant of the Marine Corps, started an initiative to make the change.

For the past few months, female Marines in recruiting units and field bands tested the new proposed female cover. Now that the testing phase has concluded, Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos will begin reviewing the results from surveys and data collected during the process…”
