Zászlólevonó ünnepély a Táncsics Mihály utcai épületegyüttesnél

Wanted: Next-Gen Armored Vehicles With Less Armor

“The Pentagon wants next-generation armored vehicles that are more mobile, maneuverable and survivable, but without more armor.

In September, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency will host a proposer’s day to give potential contractors a more clear idea of what the Defense Department wants in its Ground X-Vehicle Technologies program.

“GXV-T’s goal is not just to improve or replace one particular vehicle— it’s about breaking the ‘more armor’ paradigm and revolutionizing protection for all armored fighting vehicles,” Kevin Massey, DARPA program manager, said in an Aug. 18 press release.

Historically, militaries and industry have responded to improved or more lethal attacks on its armored vehicles by adding more armor. But armor piercing weapons technology has pretty much taken the day in that competition, advancing faster than industry’s ability to come up with armor to withstand penetration, Massey said…”

Marine Hair Policy Being Considered by Commandant

“The Daily News, Jacksonville, N.C. | Aug 25, 2014 | by Adelina Colbert

The decision to allow female Marines to wear twists, where two portions or strands of hair are interwoven together, now lies in the hands of the commandant of the Marine Corps.

Capt. Tyler Balzer, the media officer with public affairs at Headquarters Marine Corps, said a special working group within the Marine Corps Uniform Board recommended that twists be authorized for female Marines and sailors, but suggests the Corps continue to prohibit dreadlocks for females.

On Aug. 11, a survey was given to both male and female active-duty and reserve Marines to help the board gather opinions on dreadlocks and twists, two hairstyles commonly worn by African-American women, Balzer said…”

Teen Drops 84 Pounds to Enlist in Marine Corps

“Marine Corps News | Aug 15, 2014 | by Cpl. Aaron Diamant

Richmond, VA — In a time where less than one percent of Americans serve in the military, and the Department of Defense is reducing its total force numbers, becoming a full-fledged member of the Marine Corps can be challenging.

For 19-year-old Lynchburg, Va. native Aaron Hunter, earning the title of Marine has been a dream since he was 10. There was only one thing holding him back, his weight, until he lost 84 pounds in order to meet the standards set for enlisting in the Marine Corps.

It took Hunter almost two years, but he did it. He met the Marine Corps’ stringent standards, and swore in to the Delayed Entry Program on August 8…”

Marine Corps Lodges Keep Bibles

“The Daily News, Jacksonville, N.C. | Aug 18, 2014 | by Adelina Colbert

A recent decision to remove Bibles from lodging facilities aboard Navy bases was reversed on Thursday after public outcry.

But the move would not have applied to Marine Corps installations, officials said.

Bryan Driver, the public affairs officer of the Nonappropriated Business and Support Services Division for Marine Corps Community Services, said temporary lodging facilities on Marine Corps bases were not affected by the U.S. Navy’s original decision to remove religious literature from Navy lodges.

“We have no plans to direct that religious materials be removed from the Marine Corps TLF’s at this time,” Driver said in a statement…”
