Marines Use Osprey for Medevac Tactics

“U.S. Marines are using the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft in a new way by demonstrating an emerging ability to quickly bring life-rescuing, resuscitative emergency medical care to stranded injured patients in a mock-disaster drill — all as part of a special Fleet Week training exercise Oct. 6 at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, San Francisco.

“The point of this exercise is for us to demonstrate what we can do to help civilians in the event of disaster. This is resuscitative care air transport wherein we secure an advanced air way, get blood started and administer the initial care at the point of injury,” Lt. Cmdr. U.S. Marine Killed Over Persian Gulf Is Identified

The Marine Corps has identified a 21-year-old corporal who died after bailing out of his aircraft over the Persian Gulf.

The service said Friday that Jordan Spears of Memphis, Indiana, enlisted in 2010 and was on his first deployment. A memorial service will held aboard the USS Makin Island, which is being hosted by Bahrain on a mission to support military operations against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria…”

Marine Widow to Receive Husband’s Congressional Gold Medal

“Growing up, Dr. Tracey Phillips knew about her late grandfather’s career as a Marine.

She didn’t know until recently how historic that career was.

Phillips’ grandfather, George Albert Jackson, was one of the first to train at Montford Point in Jacksonville, N.C., where recruit training was set up for the first blacks to serve in the Marine Corps.

Jackson’s widow, Ella, 93, will receive a Congressional Gold Medal honoring Jackson’s place in history at 11 a.m. Thursday at Helena Place Senior Living in Port Royal. The couple married in 1962; after his death in 1987, she never remarried.

In June 2012, a congressional order authorized Montford Point Marines or their families to receive Congressional Gold Medals — the highest civilian award issued in the U.S…”
