Warriors of silence

“A csend harcosai

Marine Corps May Relax Running Times, Retain Flexed Arm Hang

“Apr 19, 2016 | by Hope Hodge Seck

The Marines Corps’ proposed fitness standards overhaul would ease up on physical fitness test running times, but make it harder overall to score a first-class PFT in an effort to better match requirements with the capabilities of the force.

The prospective changes would also offer female Marines a hybrid solution for pull-ups, retaining the flexed-arm hang as an option but granting more points to women who complete the more challenging skill.

These changes and others are contained within a predecisional briefing that was presented to three- and four-star generals last week at an executive off-site conference near Washington, D.C.

The briefing, obtained by Military.com, shows a shift to standards derived from analysis of the current force and its physical limits. ”

Kevlar or Plastic? New Armor Lighter, Provides Same Protection

“Stars and Stripes | Apr 06, 2016 | by Seth Robson

Lightweight plastic body armor will replace Kevlar-based protective equipment used by U.S. troops in 2019.

The new Torso and Extremities Protection system, which has been undergoing field testing at bases across the U.S., weighs about 23 pounds — 25 percent lighter than gear worn today, said Lt. Col. Kathy Brown, a program manager for Soldier Protection and Individual Equipment at Program Executive Office Soldier.

“We are looking at further developing the system,” she said. “We think we can lose more weight.”

It’s unclear exactly how much the new gear will cost; however, Brown said it will be cheaper than the current equipment and offer the same level of protection..”
