Marines Want Flexible Body Armor Plates, Built-in Suppressors

Marine Corps System Command today gave defense industry representatives a glimpse of the service’s new equipment wish list that includes lighter, more flexible body armor, more comfortable individual equipment and rifle barrels with built-in suppressors.

Col. Michael Manning, who oversees weapons and equipment programs for MCSC, told industry that Marine equipment is still not integrated as much as it could be.

It used to be that the Marine Corps selected weapons, accessories and equipment and just expected Marines to carry it, Manning told an audience at Modern Day Marine 2017.

“We said ‘you know what, if it adds 10 more pounds, so be it. Get over it,’” Manning said. “It’s time for all of you to help me stop getting over it. Ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain.

“When you can throw it on top of an already 70- ton tank, then that is one thing. When you throw it on top of a 200 pound marine, it’s completely another.”..”

Marines Discharge Recruit Injured in Parris Island Building Fall

A Marine recruit who sources say jumped from a one-story building at boot camp in South Carolina has been discharged from the hospital after nearly two months in treatment and administratively separated from the Marine Corps.

Officials with Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island have not revealed the name of the recruit, who was hospitalized July 26 after falling from the roofof the building just a day after arriving at the base to begin training.

A source with knowledge of the investigation into the incident told Military.com the recruit had been witnessed jumping from the receiving building and appearing to land on his head.”

It’s Official: The Marines Have Their First Female Infantry Officer

A female Marine lieutenant quietly crossed one of the last remaining hurdles for women in the service Monday, celebrating graduation of the famously difficult infantry officer course in a private ceremony reserved for family members.

The officer, who asked not to be identified, is the first woman in the Marine Corps to earn the 0302 infantry officer military occupational specialty. She will soon be sent to her new unit, which is within 1st Marine Division, out of Camp Pendleton, California, officials with Marine Corps Training and Education Command said Monday morning.

“I am proud of this officer and those in her class‎ who have earned the infantry officer MOS,” Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller said in a statement. ”
